On Monday, the International Cricket Council announced Sanjog Gupta as the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), replacing the former Geoff Allardice. As per the announcement, Gupta will join office July 7, becoming the seventh CEO of ICC. Announcing the new name, ICC chairman Jay Shah hails Gupta for his understanding of global sports and the M&E landscape. With the Los Angeles Olympics knocking on the door, it is a huge step taken by the ICC. Shah wrote: "I am pleased to announce that Snajog Gupta has been appointed as the CEO of the ICC. Sanjog brings extensive experience in sports strategy and commercialization, which will be invaluable for the ICC." He added, "His deep understanding of the global sports as well as M&E landscape combined with his continued curiosity about the cricket fan's perspective and passion for technology will prove essential in our ambition to grow the game in the coming years. Our goal is to move beyond traditional boundaries and establish cricket as a regular sport in the Olympics, growing its expanse accross the world and deepening its roots in its core markets." Shah further informed that Gupta was chosen on the basis of unanimous voting of the Nominations Committee. Shah stated: "We considered several exceptional candidates for this position, but the Nominations Committee unanimously recommended Sanjog. The ICC Board Directors look forward to working closely with him, and I would LIke to welcome him on behalf of everyone at the ICC." Sanjog Gupta is a leading figure in India's sports broadcasting, is a Delhi University of Economics Graduate, and started his career as a reporter in 2010 working for Star Sports. He was once recognized in Fortune's "40 Under 40" and named a "Leader Under 40" by leaders in sports. He has earlier managed sports content and broadcasts of Star & Disney India and is now managing at JioStar Sports since the conglomeration. He was responsible for broadcasting the Indian Premier League and the major tournaments of the ICC. With nearly two decades in media and entertainment, Gupta has pioneered regional sports broadcasts across seven languages, introduced AR/VR innovations, and championed grassroots initiatives like KBD Juniors and Khelo India. His leadership elevated Indian leagues such as the Pro Kabaddi League and Indian Super League too. Reaction of Sanjog Dutta In his first statement since taking up the role, Gupta highlighted the global growth of the sport and the exciting opportunities ahead.
