Ex-India cricketer Piyush Chawla expressed that the underperformance of Rishabh Pant in IPL 2025 is not because of his expensive price tag rather due to his inexperience recently in white-ball cricket. Lucknow Super Giants captain Rishabh Pant could have been at the receiving end of harsh criticism over disappointing performances in the season of IPL 2025. His failure to score sufficient runs has been a great contributor to his team's underwhelming performance so far. Lucknow purchased Pant for a whopping ₹27 crore, making him the most expensive player in IPL history. Unfortunately, from the time of that purchase, Pant has hardly lived up to his price tag. He has been severely criticized by fans and experts for his horrible form over the past three matches. Given the staggering price tag, Pant had to be delivering. Unfortunately, he hasn't been able to do so. His IPL 2025 campaign began with a duck against the Delhi Capitals after facing only six balls, followed by 15 runs against the Sunrisers Hyderabad. He scored only 2 runs in his last game against Punjab Kings. There have also been a lot of questions raised about his captaincy, apart from the issues he has been facing in batting. With 11 league games still to go, Pant has to fight to turn things around. However, he is currently not in the best of form. He has been out of the Indian white-ball circuit, and coming into this tournament as the captain of a franchise, there were high expectations of him. A lot happened last year, and naturally, a lot was expected from him this season." Piyush Chawla feels that Pant's poor form is related neither to his price tag nor to the fact that he is not being used a great deal in white-ball cricket. He admitted that the wicketkeeper-batter has not lived up to expectations. He added: "Unfortunately, both his team's campaign and his personal form haven't started well. His dismissal was particularly disappointing - it was a ball that could have been put away anywhere, yet he found the fielder at short fine leg. His reaction afterwards that knowing smile, suggested he is aware he's going through a rough patch where things just aren't going his way." While analyzing Pant's dismissal against Punjab Kings, Chawla stated it was one of those balls he should have taken advantage of. But he is in a rough period when nothing seems to be going in his favor.
