Former cricketer and commentator Sanjay Manjrekar criticised Indian Head Coach Gaustam Gambhir's attitude while doing the pre-departure press conference in Mumbai. Manjrekar feels that Gambhir does not have the "right demeanour" to face the media and should stay away from facing them. Just hours after Gambhir's press conference, Manjrekar lashed out on Gambhir, posting on X, saying, "Just watched Gambhir in the press conference. May be wise for the BCCI to keep him away from such duties, let him work behind the scenes. He does not have the right demeanour nor the words when interacting with them. Rohit & Agarkar, much better guys to front up for the media." Just watched Gambhir in the press conference. May be wise for @BCCI to keep him away from such duties, let him work behind the scenes. He not only backed Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli despite suffering from off-form, but also mention another stuggling batter KL Rahul's name as the opener in case Rohit goes for a leave in the first test of Border Gavaskar Trophy. He stated that he has full faith in KL and hailed him as a flexible batter. He also backed his decision to have both Nitish Reddy and Harshit Rana in the team and explained that he wanted Rana fresh for the series. This is the reason he asked Rana not to take part in the unofficial tests. Added, he clarified that Vice Catain Jasprit Bumrah will take the lead if Rohit Sharma misses any tests in the BGT.
