The Nepal Cricket Team recently scripted history with their performance against the former T20I World Cup Winners, the West Indies. The team played as a united team to thrash the visiting team in the first two matches of the three-match series, but unfortunately, couldn’t win the third match. Amid the series victory, another topic of discussion is about their star leggie Sandeep Lamichhane, who was banned by the Nepal Cricket Board for the last two T20Is due to a disciplinary breach. Despite travelling with the squad to the UAE, Sandeep was not a part of the playing XI in any of the three matches. Sandeep actually withdrew his name from the playing XI in the opening T20I match, just 15 minutes before the scheduled toss time at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium. As quoted by ESPNcricinfo, Sandeep pulled out of the match because he was not in a ‘good space’ to play the match. In his absence, even Nepal scripted history, winning back-to-back first and second T20I matches to seal the historic T20I series against the West Indies. The triumph marks Nepal's first-ever bilateral series victory against a Full Member nation. Sandeep is now expected to join the team for the upcoming ICC Men’s T20 World Cup Asia & EAP Qualifier in Oman. The Nepal Cricket Team is placed in Group B of the tournament along with Japan and Kuwait. Three teams from this qualifier will join next year’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup in India and Sri Lanka. The series began with a stunning upset as Nepal defended a modest total to register a 19-run victory, followed by a clinical and dominant 90-run victory in the second match, their most significant margin ever in the T20I format against a full member team. Men in Maroon then bounced back in the final match and thrashed the Nepal team by 10 wickets.
