Sanath Jayasuriya has been appointed Sri Lanka's men's cricket team head coach until the end of the 2026 T20 World Cup. He started out as an interim coach at the beginning of July, but had done enough to convince the Board of Control for Cricket in Sri Lanka to retain him as full-time head coach. Jayasuriya's coaching saw Lanka enjoy significant wins, among them the first ODI series victory over India in 27 years, a Test win against England after 10 years, and then a 2-0 home Test series sweep of New Zealand; as a result, their hopes are alive for the final of World Test Championship. The board statement said: "The Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket made this decision taking into consideration the team's good performances in the recent tours against India, England, and New Zealand, where Jayasuriya was in charge as the 'interim head coach."
