England have made some significant changes to their T20I teams, with all-rounder Sam Curran returning to the fold and in-form batsman Ben Duckett being awarded a well-deserved break. The decision follows England's woes in their recent ODI loss to South Africa, where their bowling balance was left severely exposed. Curran, who has not featured for England this year under Brendon McCullum's coaching regime, has been brought back due to his outstanding performance in domestic cricket. Playing for Oval Invincibles in The Hundred and Surrey in the T20 Blast, Sam Curran has proven why he is regarded as one of England's most precious assets. During the summer, Sam Curran compiled 603 runs with a strike rate of 154.21 and took 33 wickets, showcasing himself as a real match-winner with bat and ball. His addition will give England the bowling depth and flexibility they lacked in their recent series. The decision also comes just a day after South Africa tore through England’s part-time spin attack of Jacob Bethell and Will Jacks, who conceded 112 runs in just 10 overs. Curran’s presence will now give England a stronger death-bowling and middle-overs option, as well as a handy finisher with the bat. The left-handed batsman, who has become a mainstay across formats, has been out of form terribly in the latest matches. Though he scored heavily during the Test series against India this summer, he has also appeared out of touch in white-ball cricket, with only one score over 20 in his past 10 innings. He continued his poor form in the second ODI against South Africa by crawling to 14 from 33 balls. With Duckett out, Jamie Smith and Phil Salt are likely to perform the opening duties in the T20Is against South Africa, and Jacks or Tom Banton may replace them for the series against Ireland. England also pulled out another alteration, pulling out Matthew Potts from the T20Is against Ireland so that he can concentrate on County Championship matches for Durham. As Jamie Overton took a break from red-ball cricket, Potts may now have a window of opportunity to push his way into the Ashes team later this year.
