England all-rounder Sam Curran has finally opened up on missing the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 due to a groin injury. The 27-year-old was all set to represent Rajasthan Royals after being traded from Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the previous auction for Rs 2.40 crore. Curran, one of the leading pacers in the T20 format in recent times, was all set to bolster the Rajasthan squad alongside Ravindra Jadeja while CSK received Sanju Samson in return in the trade. Curran revealed that he was playing with the injury throughout the T20 World Cup 2026 where England eventually lost in the semi-finals to India at the Wankhede Stadium. Curran Told BBC: "It is a pretty significant groin injury which has sort of been a little niggle I have been dealing with for a little while now. It just gradually, fractionally got a bit worse and worse as the tournament went on, went for a couple of scans and it showed some reasonable damage so I had to make that tough call to go get the surgery and it was starting to hinder me quite a bit." He expressed his disappointment of missing out on the IPL but stressed that he is focused on his recovery. He added: "To have missed the IPL was obviously very disappointing and now I guess I just have a rehab block of trying to get strong and fit for whenever it feels right." Rajasthan Royals replaced Curran by signing Dasun Shanaka, the Sri Lanka T20I captain, for Rs 2 crore earlier last week. He is also not sure if he will be available to lead Surrey in the T20 Blast. Sam Curran concluded: "It all depends on symptoms, that obviously is still quite a way off and I guess this is obviously my first bit of rehab now at home in England, and it is going to be tough watching on the telly having known that I would have loved to have been in that IPL environment but injuries are part of the game." This news follows shortly after England opener Ben Duckett announced his withdrawal from the IPL 2026 due to fitness concerns as he intends to extend his international career. Delhi Capitals had bought Duckett for Rs 2 crore in the auctions and he is now all set to miss the tournament for a couple of years. Curran is keen to return to his best for both county and country and his absence from the IPL 2026 would be a blow for Rajasthan Royals but it seems to be a necessary move.
