Bollywood star Salman Khan has opened up about why he never owned an Indian Premier League (IPL) franchise, as much as he was offered in the league's nascent years in 2008. The IPL, which was started in 2008, soon turned out to be the largest cricket league in the world, pulling in top cricketers and famous celebrities. Shah Rukh Khan and Juhi Chawla co-owned Kolkata Knight Riders, while Preity Zinta acquired a share in Punjab Kings. Everyone anticipated that Salman too would find his name on the list of Bollywood team owners. Salman Khan's Candid Response The 59-year-old actor was quizzed at a recent event in Mumbai if he had ever thought about picking up an IPL team. Salman, in his typical light-hearted mood, replied, "IPL ke liye too old ho gaye hum (I am too old to buy an IPL team now)." "The IPL offer was made earlier, but I didn’t accept it," Salman stated. But he was quick to add that he does not regret it, stating, "It’s not like I regret it. I’m happy." Although Salman might have left IPL behind, he is still one of the top stars of Bollywood. His new film, Sikandara, co-starring Rashmika Mandanna, made headlines earlier this year. Salman is now working on Battle of Galwan, a film based on the 2020 India-China Galwan Valley clash. Salman Khan in ISPL While the IPL was not for him, Salman Khan did venture into the cricket ownership arena via the Indian Street Premier League (ISPL), a T10 tennis ball competition. He owns the New Delhi franchise in the league that has attracted other Bollywood actors such as Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan, Hrithik Roshan, Ram Charan, and Amitabh Bachchan. ISPL's second edition concluded earlier this year, and Bachchan's Majhi Mumbai emerged victorious by outsmarting Akshay Kumar's Srinagar Ke Veer in a final that went down to the wire.
