The Pakistan Cricket Board is likely to replace Shan Masood as the Test captain and appoint Salman Ali Agha as the all-format captain during the tenure of coach Mike Hesson. Agha, however, has already been leading the side in the white-ball format, and now the board is looking to hand over more responsibilities to him. However, the board is seeing the Eid holidays and all the announcements regarding forming an "observatory" committee will be done, followed by the leave. Notably, the main aim of the "observatory" committee will be to look after the developments of cricket in the national team and pass the information to the board's chairman. A source close to the proceeding revealed, "The two were informed about the decision to form the observatory committee and offered positions on it. Some other players will also be on this committee." He stated that PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi, following consultations with his close associates — including newly appointed white-ball head coach Mike Hesson — is also contemplating a restructuring of the national selection committee’s responsibilities. The source added, "Either there will be changes in the current selection committee which would continue to work with the Pakistan team management or a new selection set-up would be announced with prime focus on looking and finding talent from domestic and age group cricket." The source further said Mohsin Naqvi wants to get the apt faces for the apt positions throughout the Pakistan cricket periphery. Meanwhile, Pakistan Test cricket is yet to appoint a new red-ball Test coach, and they will have to face South Africa later this year as the beginning of the World Test Championship Cycle for 2025-27. Notably, the country will play just five Tests this calendar year.
