If there were any lingering doubts about his place in the Indian squad for the Test series in England, Sai Sudharsan answered all with a stunning 56-ball century on Sunday against DC. The southpaw virtually scripted a classic knock against a 200-run target for GT, hitting 12 fours and four sixes. GT's victory not only meant the team wins but also that they secure a place in the IPL 2025 Playoffs. The Orange Cap holder proved his form yet again with another calm and controlled innings. This was Sudharsan's second IPL hundred but the first of the season, sending out a clear message that he is ready to walk into India's playing XI for the Headingley Test, scheduled for June 20. Sudharsan remained calm and avoided unnecessary risks throughout the chase, reflecting the temperament. Notably, he stayed unbeaten on 108, thereby a mark of consistency. ππππ© ππͺπ§π, π¬πππ© ππ€π§π’ πA magnificent 1οΈβ£0οΈβ£0οΈβ£ from Sai Sudharsan πHis second in #TATAIPL π€©Updates βΆ https://t.co/4flJtatmxc #DCvGT | @sais_1509 pic.twitter.com/IFsV7CRxXZ — IndianPremierLeague (@IPL) May 18, 2025 On an IPL journey of his own, Sudharsan has 1651 runs against his name, averaging 50, with two hundreds and 11 fifties. In just this tournament alone, he has amassed 617 runs at a staggering average of 56.09. Also, he bolstered the record-breaking 205-run stand for the first wicket, with Shubman Gill marking the landmark as the sixth-highest. The very timing of this stay at the crease makes it all the more special. With Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli shying away from the Test set-up, two positions remain vacant. While others such as Sarfaraz Ahmed and Karun Nair are contenders for the spots, this performance surely puts Sudharsan in the driver's seat. He finished on 93 not out off 53 balls, playing an equally valuable part in Gujarat's resounding victory. It is expected that both Gill and Sudharsan will play for India A prior to the main Test series and so, their current form bodes well for India's tour of England.
