Mohammed Siraj was the top wicket-taker in the just-concluded Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy series against England. He appeared in all five Tests and concluded with 23 scalps at a dismal average of 32.43. He took a five-for in the fifth Test at The Oval, which saw India record a dramatic six-run victory. The comparatively inexperienced Shubman Gill-captained team had managed to draw the series 2-2 against a formidable England lineup. Siraj has been receiving rich compliments from specialists and supporters for his magnificent display of grit and determination in the heart-throbbing Test series. The great Sachin Tendulkar became part of the specialists hailing Siraj for his outstanding performances against Ben Stokes and Co. Tendulkar praised Siraj's temperament and mindset, stating that he continues to approach the batsmen regardless of the match situation. The Master Blaster further mentioned that if in-form Joe Root is presented with a choice of selecting either Siraj or a bowler who bowls his overs in quiet fashion, the former England captain will choose the latter. Here is what Tendulkar said: "Unbelievable. Superb approach. I love his attitude. I love the spring in his steps. If you don't look at the scoreboard and just see his body language, you will not be able to make out if he has taken five wickets or none at all. Body language is same. Attitude and approach are the same. So a fast bowler is constantly in your face like that. No batter likes it. If you ask Joe Root, who is a world-class batter and scored so many runs, would he like to face Siraj or will he prefer someone else who is bowling to him quietly, he will opt for the latter. Because Siraj is always at your face. He will do something or the other. So that is what Siraj is all about," Also Read | End of Workload Excuse? BCCI Plans to End Pick-and-Choose Culture After IND-ENG Tests Tendulkar was also impressed by the fact that Siraj can bowl at 90 mph on the final day of the series, even after bowling over 1000 balls during the series. "He has bowled over 1000 deliveries in the series and his approach even on the last day. I could hear the commentators saying that he clocked 90 mph in the last few deliveries on the final day of the fifth Test. So when a fast bowler bowls 1000-plus deliveries in a series and still clocks 90 mph in the end stages, that shows how big a heart he has," he added.4 Tendulkar also spoke about some of the downfalls for Siraj in the series such as when he got unfortunately dismissed at the end of the Lord's Test and when he dropped Harry Brook on Day 4 of the Oval Test. The ex-India captain stated that he had the confidence that Siraj would end the series strongly.
