SA20 and Cricket South Africa have taken an important step for the future by finalizing a competition window for South Africa's premier T20 league for the next three years. SA20 Competition Window Confirmed for the Next Three Years Season 4 will start on 26 December 2025, which happens to coincide with peak festive season, and extend through to 26 January 2026, which will conveniently lead into the ICC T20 World Cup. The event is scheduled to be held in India and Sri Lanka in February 2026. Season 5 of the SA20 will return to its traditional January slot, running from 9 January until 14 February 2027. It is expected to provide players with more rest between matches and decrease the number of weekday matches during the season. The year 2027 promises to be a great one for South African cricket fans, as the ICC Men's Cricket World Cup will take place in South Africa, Zimbabwe, and Namibia in October and November. Season 6 will run from 9 January until 13 February 2028. šššššššššššš šØ #BetwaySA20 confirms competition window for the next 3ļøā£ years š https://t.co/JSc5dFcz9v#WelcomeToIncredible pic.twitter.com/57QfokBxkg — Betway SA20 (@SA20_League) February 3, 2025 Also Read | SA20 League Champions List - Winners by Year Graeme Smith, the League Commissioner said: “Confirming the SA20 window for a three-year period allows the League to bring certainty to all stakeholders and assists in securing our place when planning the global calendar.’’ League Commissioner Graeme Smith confirmed the SA20 competition window for the next three years. The determination was done taking into consideration the ICC event schedule, which is confirmed up to 2031, and the current Future Tours Programme (FTP) up to 2027. A working group of members from both League and Cricket South Africa sat to determine the competition window for Seasons 4 to 6 of the SA20. Smith added: “We know fans respond particularly well to weekend and holiday fixtures and with the ICC T20 World Cup in early February next year, our Season 4 dates provide the unique opportunity to capitalise on South Africa’s peak cricket season and key public holidays. Early planning has also meant that we are able to look at an extended window from 2026/27 and this will optimise scheduling, logistics and the fan experience’’ The current (third) season enters into the playoffs and the 1st qualifier match will be played on Tuesday at Gqeberha where the top-of-the-table teams, MI Cape Town and Paarl Royals will face each other at St George's Park. On Wednesday, the eliminator will be played between Sunrisers Eastern Cape and Joburg Super Kings, where the team that emerges as a winner heads to qualifier 2 to face the loser of the 1st qualifier.
