The South Africa T20 league (SA20), now the world's second-largest franchise tournament after the IPL, is ready for its fourth auction on Tuesday (September 9) in Johannesburg. The auction will be historic, as it is the league's very first mega auction, where franchises will seek to rebuild their teams with some of the best South African and international cricketers. In preparation for the auction, each team was granted permission to keep or exercise a wildcard provision to retain six players. Building up to the excitement, in this year teams shall be using the Right to Match (RTM) card for the very first time in SA20 history. With a combined salary cap of R41 million (approximately ₹20.42 crores), SA20 is now only second to the IPL when it comes to financial might. Retained players are included under the salary cap, but not the wildcard player. This has opened up space for franchises to strategize smartly in the auction room.
