India A’s two-match unofficial Test series has wrapped up, with South Africa A clinching a 5-wicket victory in the 2nd Test held at the BCCI’s CoE in Bengaluru. The standout performer for India A was none other than twin-centurion Dhruv Jurel, while the rest of the team’s regulars either fell short or struggled to make an impact. After securing a win in the 1st unofficial Test by 3 wickets, the outcome of the 2nd match was certainly not what India A had hoped for, especially since it was the last game before their two-match Test series against South Africa kicks off. His impressive form in the red-ball format continued, following his scores of 125, 44, and 6* against the West Indies. In the 1st innings, he remained unbeaten at 132 runs while the other India A stars, including KL Rahul and Sai Sudharsan, struggled to find their rhythm. He certainly outperformed captain Rishabh Pant, who he had stepped in for during the IND vs WI series, as Pant could only manage 24 runs. In the 2nd innings, Jurel once again crossed the century mark, finishing with an unbeaten 127 runs. Meanwhile, Test regulars like Padikkal, Rahul, and Sudharsan could only muster scores above 20. Pant, who had to retire hurt on 17 after taking several hits during the 1st session on Day 3, returned to the crease to finish with 65 runs. With his stellar performance in the IND A vs SA A 2nd Test, Jurel has made it nearly impossible for Gambhir and Shubman Gill to leave him out of the playing XI for the upcoming IND vs SA Test series. In fact, he might even take Nitish Kumar Reddy’s spot in the lineup as a specialist batter.
