Team India is looking for ways to make a comeback in the Test series against New Zealand after getting hammered in the first Test that was held in Bengaluru. The Indian team has added their versatile off-spinning all-rounder Washington Sundar for the remainder of the series. India's assistant coach, Ryan ten Doeschate, recently shed light on the true reason behind Washington Sundar's inclusion in the Test squad. Initially, rumors were suggesting that Sundar had been brought in as a replacement for veteran off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin, who was thought to be injured. These speculations arose after Ashwin bowled sparingly on the final day of the Test match against New Zealand. Sundar was brought in after the first Test in Bengaluru, following his impressive performance in a Ranji Trophy match against Delhi, where he scored 150 runs and took six wickets overall. Ryan ten Doeschate said: "Look, we've obviously got Axar in the squad as well. They're filled with four left-handers in their 11. We want the option to take the ball away from the left-handers as well. You know, we've had Washi around the white ball squad for a while and we like the way he operates. It's also nice to see that guys are getting rewarded for a Ranji Trophy performances as well. So hopefully that sends a good message out to all the other guys. But it's certainly not a desperate measure.” He also confirmed that there are no injury concerns regarding R Ashwin, the other off-spinner in the squad and that he is completely fine.
