Rajasthan Royals' stand-in captain Riyan Parag has been fined INR 12 lakh for maintaining a slow over-rate on Sunday, March 30. Parag, who has been leading the side in the absence of regular captain Sanju Samson, secured his first win as skipper in front of his home crowd in Guwahati against Chennai Super Kings. Before this victory, the Royals had suffered losses against Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders, making this an important turn out for Parag. Despite RR’s impressive six-run victory, where they successfully restricted CSK to 176/6 in the chase, the team was found guilty of failing to complete their overs within the stipulated time. As a result, Parag was penalized under the IPL’s over-rate regulations. According to the statement released by the Indian Premier League: "Mr. Riyan Parag, Captain, Rajasthan Royals has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during Match 11 of the TATA Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 against Chennai Super Kings at the ACA Stadium, Guwahati on 30th March, 2025. As this was his team’s first offence of the season under Article 2.22 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct, which pertains to minimum over-rate offences, Parag was fined INR 12 lakhs." Riyan Parag is now the second captain this season to be penalized for slow over-rate, following Mumbai Indians' Hardik Pandya. Pandya was fined for a slow over rate in his match against the Gujarat Titans. Notably, the IPL has limited punishments for such offences to monetary fines this season. Last season, repeated over-rate violations resulted in a one-match suspension for the captain. In the last season, Hardik Pandya was banned for one match for repeated offenses. He had to miss the game against Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2025. Riyan Parag's brilliant outing vs CSK Despite the code of conduct breach, Riyan Parag had a day to remember in the field. He contributed with both bat and in the field. Also, captained the team well for their first win of the season. Initially, he notched up 37 from 28 balls, helping the Royals reach 182/9 in their 20 overs. Parag also pulled off a stunning catch to dismiss Shivam Dube, a moment that significantly shifted the momentum in RR’s favor. Dube, who is very destructive against the spinners, was taken down early by Parag's brilliance in the field. This impacted CSK's chase, who eventually lost by six runs.
