Former India cricketers RP Singh and Pragyan Ojha have formally sent their nominations for the two vacant spots on the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) men’s selection panel. The development comes weeks after BCCI invited applications for the posts on August 22. Singh, a left-arm pacer who played 14 Tests, 58 ODIs, and 10 T20Is between 2005 and 2011, brings experience from India’s 2007 T20 World Cup triumph. Ojha, the crafty left-arm spinner, represented India in 24 Tests, 18 ODIs, and 6 T20Is from 2008 to 2013. Their inclusion would strengthen the zonal representation, as Singh hails from Central Zone and Ojha from South Zone. The eligibility criteria mandated a minimum of 7 Tests, or 30 first-class games, or 10 ODIs and 20 first-class matches, along with a minimum of five years of retirement. Both ex-cricketers comfortably meet the requirements. Other Contenders and Selection Process Apart from Singh and Ojha, the BCCI has received applications from former India pacer Praveen Kumar, Uttar Pradesh’s Ashish Winston Zaidi, and Himachal Pradesh’s Shakti Singh. The Cricket Advisory Committee (CAC), comprising Ashok Malhotra, Jatin Paranjpe, and Sulakshna Naik, will now scrutinize the applications. Following the shortlisting, interviews will be conducted before final recommendations are made to the BCCI office-bearers. Currently, the panel is chaired by former India pacer Ajit Agarkar, with Shiv Sunder Das, Subroto Banerjee, Ajay Ratra, and Sridharan Sharath completing the five-member team. With Ojha and Singh likely contenders, zonal reshuffling could see the exit of one or more current selectors. The new appointees are expected to assume office ahead of India’s upcoming Test series against the West Indies, which will be followed by a white-ball tour of Australia.
