Roston Chase made history in the third and last T20I match between Pakistan and West Indies on Sunday in Lauderhill. While pursuing a target of 190 runs, Chase became the first Full Member nation batter to be retired out in a men's T20 International. West Indies had begun well with Alick Athanaze making 60 off 40 balls. However, when he got out, the run-rate came down. West Indies were 110 for 3 in the 13th over and needed 80 runs off 42 balls. Sherfane Rutherford, who was in at No. 4, started hitting right from the beginning. However, Chase, playing alongside him, could not keep pace. He scored 15 runs off 12 balls, and he only hit two boundaries. With only 18 balls remaining and 41 runs required, West Indies brought him back and replaced him with a more attacking batsman. This aggressive stroke wasn't sufficient though since West Indies managed only 176 runs, losing by 13 runs. Pakistan won the game and won the series 2-1. It was not the first time Chase was retired out in T20 cricket. In the earlier part of 2025, playing for Abu Dhabi Knight Riders in the ILT20, he was retired out as well after making 20 runs from 13 deliveries in the 18th over. Prior to Chase, only one case of a batter getting retired out in a men's T20I involving the full member nation had occurred before. That occurred during the 2024 T20 World Cup when Namibia's Nikolaas Davin retired after scoring 18 off 16 balls in a game against England. However, Chase retiring himself out is the only incident by a batter from a full member nation.
