India captain Rohit Sharma is in the dock following poor performances in the Tests. The right-handed batter managed just 91 runs in three matches against New Zealand at an average of 15.16. He was supposed to come good in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy, but the poor form seems to have stuck to the India opener, as his struggle has become the talk of the town. He has managed to score just 31 runs in five innings of the ongoing series. The captaincy also comes under the scanner, as the team won just one out of the last six Test matches that he had captained. This led to reports that the 37-year-old may declare his Test retirement the moment the Sydney Test gets over. An Instagram post from Rohit on December 31 reflecting on the year that has passed has sparked the speculations as he captioned the post "Thank You 2024". Here is what Rohit wrote on Instagram "For all the ups & downs, and everything in between, Thank you 2024," See the post here: View this post on Instagram A post shared by Rohit Sharma (@rohitsharma45) Also Read | Sunil Gavaskar Urges Selectors to Shift Focus from Seniors Our fate is no longer in our hands: Aakash Chopra Led by Rohit, India desperately need to win the upcoming Sydney Test, scheduled from January 3 at the Sydney Cricket Ground. After the defeating Australi India in Melbourne, the hosts now enjoy a lead of 2-1 in the series and India cannot win the Border-Gavaskar Trophy for the first time in the last 10 years. Their hopes of going to the finals of the World Test Championship 2025 would also be dashed if they lost the fifth Test in Sydney. Here is what Chopra said on his YouTube channel "Our fate is no longer in our hands. We cannot win the series from here. Our hopes will remain alive if we win (the last Test). We can't lose this series. For Australia, if the last match is a draw, they will have to avoid defeat in at least one game against Sri Lanka,"
