In a potentially concerning turn of events, it seems that veterans Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma might miss the upcoming India A series against South Africa, which is set to take place before the ODI series. The two players, who stepped away from Test cricket earlier this year, are currently focused solely on ODIs and were last seen on the field during the IND vs AUS series back in October. It's worth noting that earlier reports suggested that Ro-Ko would need to participate in domestic and unofficial matches to keep their chances alive for future spots in the Indian ODI team. After retiring from T20Is following their World Cup victory in 2024, Rohit and Virat made the surprising decision to step back from Test cricket just before the IND vs ENG series. Ahead of the IND vs AUS ODI series, chief selector Ajit Agarkar mentioned that the duo seemed uncertain about their commitment to the 2027 World Cup, raising questions about their future in the ODI setup. While Kohli faced a rare setback with back-to-back ducks against Australia, he made a strong comeback with an impressive unbeaten 74-run performance in the IND vs AUS 3rd ODI. Rohit, on the other hand, proved he still has what it takes. After a disappointing 8-run outing in the 1st ODI, he rebounded with scores of 73 and a match-winning 121 in the 3rd ODI.
