Rohit Sharma has been a hot name during the ongoing Border Gavaskar Trophy due to his off form, and now, a report from Express Sports is suggesting that Rohit Sharma has opted to stay out for the fifth at Sydney. Rohit Sharma has been struggling with his batting form this year, with his form hitting its low in the series. He has a batting average a bit more than 6, the lowest for any Indian team touring Australia. During the net session, Rohit Sharma was spotted having chats with Jasprit Bumrah, head coach Gautam Gambhir, and chief-selector Ajit Agarkar. Not only that, he skipped the slip-catching practice and had a brief batting session at the nets. If Rohit Sharma misses Sydney, it seems like Melbourne—that is the fourth Test—would be last for him representing India. Considering the batting form, the 37-year-old may not get a chance to play the World Test Championship, scheduled in June 2025 (if India qualifies). Having said that, Jasprit Bumrah will lead India again, as did in Perth. Meanwhile, Prasidh Krishna is going to replace Akash Deep in Sydney. Earlier, in the pre-match conference, Gambhir confirmed that India's other reliable pacer, Akash Deep, has suffered back stiffness after bowling almsot 88 bovers relentlessly. Thus, he will have to miss the fifth Test at Sydney. Previously, another rumor sparked, claiming India may drop Rishabh Pant, opening the door for Dhruv Jurel. However, the report from Indian Express denied all such claims. Note that the official declaration for the team regarding the team selection has yet to be made.
