Rohit Sharma, a name that is not going to be forgotten easily in Indian cricket history. Rohit Sharma ended the ICC trophy drought by winning the T20 World Cup in the final last year in June where they defeated South Africa, now same Rohit Sharma played a vital role in lifting the third Champions Trophy for India after beating New Zealand in the final in Dubai earlier this month. Amid the celebrations, rumours were speculated that Rohit Sharma is set to retire from 50-over cricket but the Indian skipper himself denied all the rumours and said that he will continue playing this format. Undoubtedly he is a legend in this format but he is not in his prime form for Test cricket. In the span of 8 months, he was clean-swept by New Zealand on Indian soil and later lost the Border-Gavaskar Trophy (BGT) in Australia, which ultimately ended India’s hopes for the World Test Championship (WTC 2025) Final qualifications. Fans were expressing that he should leave the red-ball captaincy. He said that Rohit has been brilliant in white-ball cricket, but his Test performances have been underwhelming. With a crucial 5-match Test match series scheduled in June this year, he needs to take responsibility for the team. During the Trailblazers 3.0 event by Revsportz, Ganguly said: “Rohit Sharma is a phenomenal white-ball player. But what surprised me is his form in red-ball over the last four or five years. A player of his stature, his ability, I think he can do much better than what he has done. Once this series finishes, he must put on his thinking cap because we have five Tests against England. That is going to be another hard series, like the way it was in Australia. It is going to seam, it is going to swing, and England are a good side at home. India needs him to perform with the red ball. But in white-ball cricket, he is the greatest ever. I have always said Rohit Sharma is a fabulous captain.” Sourav Ganguly also shared his perspectives on Rohit Sharma as the Test captain for the future after his recent struggles. He further added: “I think he is a fantastic captain. I have captained India for so many matches, so I can see the traits in a captain. I am not surprised that he has taken the team to greater heights in white-ball cricket. But I do not know whether he is going to continue playing Test cricket. And if he is hearing me on this, I think he should take the responsibility of turning things around in red-ball cricket. India needs to find a way to perform better in Test matches, especially in England.” Rohit Sharma Stats in Test Cricket As Captain Matches Played 24 Runs Scored 1254 Average 30.58 100s 4 Win 12 Loss 9 Draw 3 Win at Home 10 Win Overseas 2 This was the first time when India couldn’t make it to the Finals of World Test Championship (WTC) after qualifying for two consecutive times in 2021 and 2023.
