India's ODI skipper Rohit Sharma recently talked about the lovely moment he proposed to his wife, Ritika Sajdeh. In a candid chat with ex-cricketer Harbhajan Singh and his wife, Geeta Basra, Rohit explained how he prepared for the special night. He reminded him of how he had just casually told Ritika that they were going for ice cream. But instead of a dessert break, he led her to his childhood cricket pitch a place near and dear to his heart. Once there, under the starry night and right in the center of the pitch, Rohit dropped down on one knee and proposed to her. His friend, who was in on the secret, snapped the whole scene quietly. It was an action that was low-key but heartwarming, and one that summed up Rohit's down-to-earth personality precisely. While somebody who has given so many match-winning performances on the field, this on-field moment was no less memorable for the couple and spectators everywhere. Here is what Rohit said on YouTube Channel 'Who’s The Boss?' “My proposal was quite romantic. I took her to the place where I started playing cricket. We were here only (somewhere along Marine Drive apparently). She had brought food from home. We ate it. So, I was just sitting. Then I told her let’s go out to eat ice cream, I’m bored. Then we took the car out, we left. We left from Marine Drive, crossed Haji Ali, Worli. So, she asked where is the ice cream shop? She does not know anything after Bandra. I told her there's a good one in Borivali, where I live. You’ve never come, so let me show you,” "It was a ground and it was pitch dark and she didn’t realise it was a ground. Then I had already told my friend to set up something there at the ground and just be there to capture the moment. We parked the car. Then I went on my knees, in the middle of the pitch. Then, I proposed to her,” Rohit added. He retired from red-ball cricket in May 2025, just prior to the announcement of the team for the England Test series. Since his retirement, Shubman Gill has been appointed as the new Indian Test team captain. India has got off to a decent start in the opening Test match at Headingley under his captaincy, having scored a fighting 471 runs in the first innings.
