It seems to have finally arrived at IPL 2025 for Rohit Sharma. The former captain of the Mumbai Indians (MI) launched his maiden fifty of the season during the big match against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK), often known as the 'El Clasico' of IPL. Before this match, Rohit's highest score in the tournament was only 26, indicating that he was battling with his form. But Sunday night proved otherwise. This time, Rohit remained calm and did not give his wicket away after settling down. Chasing 177 at Wankhede, the 'Mumbai cha Raja' had given MI a head start. Along with Ryan Rickelton, Rohit built a stunning opening partnership of 64 runs, taking charge from ball one. Displacing Khaleel Ahmed, who would dismiss him almost every 10 runs was just child's play. In fact, Rohit saved his best for the last, smashing the left-arm pacer all over the park for 14 runs in an over. That, too, was nine deliveries long, and slower balls from the other end, Jamie Overton, were clobbered for 18 runs by Rohit. After the initial overs, CSK tried to slow Rohit down with spin. But MI opener countered the strategy. The pace slowed down marginally but on the other end Suryakumar Yadav was expertly knocking the ball around to keep the scoreboard moving. Rohit got his fifty off 33 balls, an important milestone. He then changed gears, attacked 26 more in the next 12 balls, and took Matheesha Pathirana to the cleaners. In the process, he also ticked off several records and milestones with style.
