With both players failing to deliver in recent Tests, there are discussions about introducing a performance-based pay structure. This could lead to pay cuts for players not meeting expectations, inspired by corporate models. A source informed the Indian Express, "A suggestion was made that players should be held accountable for their performances. If their contributions are not up to the mark, they could face variable pay reductions." Last year, the BCCI introduced an incentive system for Test players, offering Rs 30 lakh for over 50% participation and Rs 45 lakh for over 75%, as part of a Rs 40-crore initiative. But with India’s recent struggles, even top players like Rohit and Kohli may face reductions in their salaries.
