The India captain, Rohit Sharma, jumped to second place in the ICC ODI rankings for batters after his fine display in the just-concluded three-ODI series against Sri Lanka. Though India lost the series 0-2, he scored 157 runs including two half-centuries at an average of 52.33. The first match ended in a draw. Shubman Gill dropped one place to third in the rankings while Virat Kohli remained on number 4. Pakistan's Babar Azam leads the chart with 824 rating points and is followed by Rohit Sharma who has 765. Shreyas Iyer is another Indian player placed at 16th and KL Rahul slipped to 21st. Left-arm wrist-spinner Kuldeep Yadav is the highest-ranked Indian in the bowling rankings at No 4, sitting behind South Africa's Keshav Maharaj and Australia's Josh Hazlewood and Adam Zampa, who retain the top three. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah remained at eighth while Mohammed Siraj slipped five places to share the ninth spot with New Zealand's Trent Boult. Indian pacer Mohammed Shami is ranked 12th. The 33-year-old is currently recovering from ankle surgery at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru and is expected to return for the two-match Test series against Bangladesh in Chennai and Kanpur next month. Washington Sundar, who was India's top wicket-taker in the Sri Lanka ODIs with five wickets in three matches, has climbed 10 spots to reach 87th in the rankings. Ravindra Jadeja continues to be the highest-ranked Indian all-rounder, holding 16th place, while Hardik Pandya has slipped four spots to 26th.
