India's World Cup-winning skipper and top opener Rohit Sharma has achieved a fantastic milestone in his cricketing career. When he took the field on October 19 at Perth for India's 1st ODI against Australia, he reached the milestone of playing 500th international game for India, something that only a few legends of Indian cricket have achieved so far. With this, Rohit has joined the exclusive group of five Indian players, along with Sachin Tendulkar (664 matches), Virat Kohli (551*), MS Dhoni (535), and Rahul Dravid (504), that includes him as the fifth player to appear in 500 international matches. The Mumbaikar has been India's most reliable performer across all three forms for more than 15 years. Elegant stroke play and winning temperament have been Rohit's trademark, and he has been the pillar of India's batting unit, especially in ODIs and T20Is. š„ 500 matches of pure class and dominance!Rohit Sharma’s incredible journey in international cricket continues as he joins the elite 500-match club. In 499 international matches (excluding the 1st ODI vs AUS), he has amassed close to 20,000 runs across formats, averaging over 40 in Tests and ODIs, and over 32 in T20Is. Rohit's name is now in record books because of his three double centuries in ODIs, the highest by a player. His highest ODI score of 264 runs is still a world record today. Having guided India to victory in the ICC Champions Trophy earlier this year, Rohit opted to retire from Test and T20I cricket and play the ODI format alone. The series against Australia is his return to international cricket after a number of months. At the age of 38, Rohit remains one of the fittest and most seasoned players in the Indian team. It has been reported that he has had a grueling fitness turnaround in the last six months, losing considerable weight and enhancing his endurance rate, indicating his desire to feature at the 2027 ODI World Cup. Though his technique is consistent, team management is keeping a close watch on his workload and fitness. A good show against Australia will further consolidate his role as India's top batter and guide for the younger lot of players. Rohit Sharma's 500th game is not only a milestone but also an indication of his commitment, austerity, and contribution to Indian cricket. When he steps out in Perth, he will turn the page to another golden chapter in his glorious career.
