India cricket team's previous captain Rohit Sharma supported Nitish Kumar Reddy to be an all-format great of the future before his ODI debut. The Andhra Pradesh all-rounder received his first ODI cap from the Hitman before the IND vs AUS 1st ODI in Perth on Sunday. Replacing injured Hardik Pandya, Nitish showed with the bat as his cameo contributed to India reaching a face-saving 136-run score in the rain-curtailed tie. In a video shared by the BCCI on social media, Rohit is observed making a speech to Nitish while presenting the latter his first ODI cap. The former Indian captain stated that he was 110% confident that the all-rounder would not just prove to be a long way runner for India with his attitude but was also meant to be an all-format great. Sharma also added that the whole squad would always be with him to back him up and pull his team together when the need arose. Here is what Rohit Sharma said: “You had a great start to your career. And it is only because of how you want to play the game and your attitude. I’m 110% sure that with that attitude, you are going to go a long way in this Indian team. You are going to be an all-format great, which I believe thoroughly because like you said in your speech yesterday, ‘you want to be everywhere’. And that is where we all want you to be,” Also Read | Will Sanju Samson Join CSK Before IPL 2026? It was former Test captain Virat Kohli, who awarded him the cap after lavishing huge praise on the all-rounder. Nitish performed reasonably well in his first Test series, including scoring a stunning hundred at the MCG. Nitish Kumar Reddy's ODI debut was a moment of pride not only for him but also for Indian cricket, as he again proved to be a talented all-rounder in the making. With Rohit Sharma supporting him as an all-format superstar of the future, and having already made an impression on his Test debut, Nitish has the backing and guidance of some of the best Indian players. His level-headed approach, batting and ball-handling ability, as well as pressure-performance capability, suggest that he might grow to be India's go-to man in all formats of the game in the coming years.
