The Indian ODI captain, Rohit Sharma, is likely to undergo fitness tests at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence in Bengaluru. A report from Rev Sports suggested that Ro will be reaching the venue by the 29th of August. On the 30th he will have some basic Tests, while he will undergo the yo-yo Test on the 31st. Other players like KL Rahul and Harshit Rana are supposed to visit the CoE too for the fitness tests. Before the Asia Cup squad selection, Hardik Pandya and Shreyas Iyer visited the CoE and successfully passed the Tests. Currently Ishan Kishan who suffered a recent bike accident, is reportedly in CoE. However, there are no updates on Virat Kohli's availability. Notably, Rohit Sharma have had an extensive break since the conclusion of the 2025 Indian Premier League. He was in London and had visited the Oval to watch the fifth Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar Series. Recently, he was back in Mumbai and had started training with India's former assistant coach, Abhishek Nayar. Despite having resumed training a month ago, the Indian captain wants to face Australia A to ensure he is match-ready and avoids being undercooked ahead of the series. This move comes amid speculation that the tour could mark the final ODI assignments for Sharma. Currently, ODI cricket remains the only format in which Rohit is active, following his retirement from T20Is in 2024 and Tests in May 2025. Reports indicate that selectors are also considering options beyond Sharma for the 2027 ODI World Cup. To maintain his place in the squad, Rohit is expected to feature in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, starting December 2025, which will give him an opportunity to stay in form and reinforce his credentials for the national ODI side.
