He keeps the energy high inside the dressing room to manage his resources at the right place on the field, the 36-year-old from Mumbai has proved it time and again. Youngsters enjoy the support he gives, while coaches admire the man-management skills he shows, in the Indian team or even in the IPL. Former India leg-spinner Piyush Chawla, who plays alongside Rohit for Mumbai Indians, recently recalled his experience. Explaining how sharp Rohit's leadership instincts can be, Chawla claimed that Rohit once phoned him at 2:30 AM to chalk out a strategy to dismiss David Warner during an IPL match. Chawla told Shubhankar Mishra on YouTube. “I’ve played so much cricket with him that we’ve reached a comfort level. We sit off the field as well. Once, at 2:30 in the night, he texted me and asked, ‘You up?’ He drew a field on paper and discussed with me about potentially dismissing Warner. Mumbai Indians did reach the playoffs but lost the second qualifier to Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad. Chawla termed Rohit Sharma more of a 'leader' than a mere captain by referring to instances on last year's ODI World Cup and this year's T20 World Cup. He added, “There’s a captain, then there’s a leader. He isn’t a captain but a leader. Whether it was the 2023 ODI World Cup, or the 2024 T20 World Cup, the way he batted, he sets the tone in such a way that he made it easy for the next batters. He’s a true leader. He gives you a free hand,” Rohit Sharma was part of the T20 World Cup this summer and had led his team to victory. He termed this T20 World Cup win as the best moment and biggest achievement of his career.He has led Mumbai Indians to 5 IPL titles, but there are rumors that he will be leaving them before the 2025 IPL season.
