Rishabh Pant-led Lucknow Super Giants defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by five wickets on Thursday, chasing down 191 in just 17 overs to secure their first win of IPL 2025. This victory also marked Pant’s first win as LSG captain. Pant, who was released by Delhi Capitals ahead of the IPL 2025 auction, was picked up by Lucknow Super Giants and subsequently appointed captain. During the presentation ceremony, Pant referenced MS Dhoni's iconic saying, "Control the controllables," while reflecting on the team's win. "Definitely a big relief, but as a team we talk about the process. We don't want to get too high after winning and too low after losing, taking it one match at a time. It was a big concern, but as a team we don't want to focus on uncontrollables. Like my mentor said, focus on controllables," he said. Pant and Dhoni share a strong bond, with the former India captain even attending Pant’s sister's wedding recently. Rishabh Pant's batting form a concern? While Pant secured his first victory as captain, his batting form in IPL 2025 has raised concerns. In the opening match against Delhi Capitals, he was dismissed for a duck. Against Sunrisers Hyderabad, he managed a run-a-ball 15 before being dismissed by Harshal Patel while trying to hit a full toss. Notably, Rishabh Pant had to warm the bench for the entire Champions Trophy, where India ended as the champions. The Indian cricket team management opted to play KL Rahul ahead of him. Lucknow Super Giants will next face Punjab Kings on April 1st. All eyes will be on Pant as he looks to rediscover his form and contribute with the bat.
