The Indian wicketkeeper batter Rishabh Pant has reportedly joined the Delhi Ranji team for the ongoing Ranji season and is likely to lead the team in the second match, replacing their full-time captain Ayush Badoni. According to a report from the Times of India, Pant signed in with Delhi on Thursday, December 9. And now, the 28-year-old batter will play the second match, which is the Elite Group D match against Himachal Pradesh, at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. Notably, the match will be a means to check his fitness ahead of the upcoming South Africa Test series starting this November. Earlier, it was predicted that Rishabh will be playing the Ranji games in Delhi. And now, the TOI report suggested that Rishabh will lead the squad against Himachal Pradesh. Notably, the match against Himachal will be played on October 25 to 28. There were claims that DDCA picked a rushed squad full of youngsters. The squad was selected mostly based on net sessions arranged by associations. And then the players are not getting practice games before the season. Well, Ayush Badoni is leading the side, and Pant is awaiting a BCCI green signal to be the captain. However, the odd part of the team is that there are four wicketkeepers, which is not usual for a Ranji side. Notably, former U-19 World Cup-winning captain Yash Dhull has been voted as the vice captain of the team. Nitish Rana, who had a great season at the Delhi Premier League, had been called for the Ranji Trophy. However, DDCA secretary Ashok Sharma confirmed that Rana has been picked for the first two matches. Notably, Rana had a brief period for Uttar Pradesh. Before that, he was with Delhi. but was not considered for first-class cricket. He came to Delhi again, and earned his spot for the Ranji side.
