India was able to come out of the five-match Test series against England 2-2, but things were not entirely their way in the Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy. The side suffered a massive blow when star wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant was injured in the fourth Test in Manchester. He fractured his toe after being struck by a delivery from England fast bowler Chris Woakes. The injury was sustained while India was playing their first innings. The blow was severe enough that Pant was taken off the field on a golf cart. Although he came out to bat in that innings as his team required, but he could not continue wicket-keeping for the rest of the match and was ruled out of playing in the fifth and last Test at The Oval. Pant was also dropped from the team after the fourth Test. Nevertheless, he will continue to take at least six weeks off in order to completely recuperate from the fracture. That implies that he will miss two series, the Asia Cup 2025 in September and the home Test series against West Indies. Even Pant not featuring in the Asia Cup won't be a significant issue for India, since he isn't their go-to keeper in T20Is, but his lack of participation in the West Indies Tests might prove to be costly. He is the vice-captain of the Test side and one of the most reliable hitters in the longer format. Despite of the agony, Pant displayed immense bravery during the Manchester Test. Even when hurt, he stepped out to bat and played a gritty knock. He even scored a half-century, taking India to 358 and displaying yet again why he's so important an asset.
