Since Gautam Gambhir took over the head coach responsibilities, it has been a season of rumours and leaks, and now another scandal has been added—dropping Abhishek Nayar right before the England tour. While fielding coach T. Dilip's dismissal looks normal, there is something fishy about Nayar's, at least that's what reports are claiming. It has been just eight months since Nayar got the role of assistant coach under the leadership of Gautam Gambhir. However, the pathetic batting shows since the home Test series against New Zealand have raised enough questions regarding his role in the team. While it was predicted that the batting failures would sack him, reports seem to dig under the covers. According to a report from PTI, Nayar has been made the "scapegoat" of the tussle between a member of the support staff and a key member of the senior team. A source close to BCCI has informed PTI that a powerful member of the Indian team has mentioned Nayar's influence as counter- productive, and that might have led to the sacking. The source said, “While India’s recent Test debacles (against New Zealand and Australia) has led to the churning but there is also a feeling in the BCCI that Nayar became a scapegoat in the turf war between an important member of the support staff and a senior star player." The top officials of the board, including secretary Devajit Saikia and vice-president Rajeev Shukla, were present along with important members associated with the Indian team, and the national selectors. On the sidelines of the meeting, a powerful member of the support staff expressed his apprehensions about Nayar’s presence and said how him being in the dressing room is proving to be counter-productive." Not only that, the inclusion of Sitangshu Kotak in the team as the batting coach seemed to have already rung the bells for Nayar. The source further said, “While the BCCI didn’t act immediately but they brought in Kotak, the former Saurashtra run-accumulator. It was a way of side-lining Nayar during the Champions Trophy." Well, there have been reports going around that it might be a homecoming for Abhishek Nayar. According to some, Nayar might rejoin the camp of Kolkata Knight Riders. Notably, the Indian Men's Cricket Team will tour England from June to August for a five-match Test series.
