All-rounder Shivam Dube is likely to join India's T20I squad in Rajkot for the remaining series against England. News of Dube's inclusion has come following an injury concern to Nitish Kumar Reddy. Significantly, Abhishek Sharma also suffered an ankle twist in the series opener in Kolkata. Dube's last international match was in August 2024, during an ODI series against Sri Lanka. He had missed India's home T20I series against Bangladesh due to a back injury. However, the all-rounder made a strong comeback in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Dube scored 151 runs in five innings at a strike rate of 179.76 and also claimed three wickets. However, the hosts are facing another injury scare as opener Abhishek Sharma twisted his right ankle while warming up ahead of the second T20I in Chennai. While Abhishek could walk with assistance and later hit the nets, his discomfort is a question mark over his availability for the game. Abhishek played a brilliant knock of 79 runs in the first match, which helped India win easily and take a 1-0 lead in the five-match series. If he misses the next game, the team will have to decide who will open with Sanju Samson. Options could be Tilak Varma or Dhruv Jurel, but neither is a regular opener. Mohammed Shami, who was out of the first game, may play his first match of the series. He was bowling at full steam in the nets in Chennai as bowling coach Morne Morkel watched his session closely.
