Jasprit Bumrah is expected to miss the first two weeks of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 as he continues his recovery from a lower back injury. The Indian pacer is currently undergoing rehabilitation at the BCCI's Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru. While Bumrah has resumed bowling in the nets, the latest reports suggest that he may not be match-fit for the early stages of the Mumbai Indians' (MI) campaign. A BCCI source revealed to the Times of India that Bumrah is likely to be fully fit only by the first week of April. "Bumrah’s medical reports are okay. He has resumed bowling at the CoE. However, it is unlikely he’ll be able to bowl at the start of the IPL in another fortnight. As per the current status, the first week of April looks a more realistic date for him to get back to high-intensity cricket," the source said. Despite India losing the Test series by 3-1, Bumrah was top-notch. The pacer finished the Test series with 32 wickets despite bowling only 10 overs in the Sydney Test. Bumrah, who was the player of the series, equaled Harbhajan Singh's record of most wickets taken by any bowler in an India vs Australia Test series. Who will replace Jasprit Bumrah in the playing XI? Bumrah's absence is a significant blow for the Mumbai Indians as they chase their sixth IPL title. The team will have to rely on overseas options and a largely inexperienced domestic pace attack in the initial matches. Apart from Indian internationals like Deepak Chahar and Hardik Pandya, MI's domestic pace options include former U19 star Raj Bawa, Arjun Tendulkar, and Satyanarayana Raju. However, none of them are experienced at the higher level, and it will be interesting to see how the Mumbai Indians use their options. The Mumbai Indians are set to open their IPL 2025 campaign against arch-rivals Chennai Super Kings on March 23. They will then face the Gujarat Titans on March 29 before taking on the defending champions, the Kolkata Knight Riders, on March 31. Bumrah is unlikely to feature in any of these key fixtures.
