According to recent reports, Anya Shrubsole, the former fast bowler for England, has been named the new bowling coach for Royal Challengers Bengaluru as they gear up for the 2026 Women's Premier League (WPL). In the meantime, head coach Luke Williams is stepping away due to scheduling conflicts. The management is planning significant changes to their support staff ahead of the new season. Shrubsole hung up her international boots in 2022 after an impressive career that included eight Tests, 86 ODIs, and 79 T20Is for England. She took 19, 106, and 102 wickets in those formats, respectively, and had a standout record against India, claiming 34 wickets in 28 matches across all formats. She is perhaps best remembered for her incredible performance in the 2017 World Cup final, where she led England to victory with a stunning spell of 6/46 at Lord’s against India truly one of the highlights in women’s cricket history. Since retiring, Shrubsole has been involved with the coaching staff at Southern Brave during The Hundred and has served as a player-mentor for various domestic teams in England. The RCB management was reportedly eager to bring in someone with fresh perspectives to strengthen their bowling lineup, which includes talented Indian bowlers like Renuka Singh and Shreyanka Patil, along with New Zealand star Sophie Devine. Malolan Rangarajan Named Head Coach On another note, Luke Williams, who led RCB to their first WPL title has decided to resign from his head coach position. His choice was influenced by his ongoing commitments with the Adelaide Strikers in Australia’s Women’s Big Bash League (WBBL), which coincides with the upcoming WPL 2026 season starting on January 8. In his absence, RCB is expected to elevate Malolan Rangarajan, the team’s long-time assistant and strategy coach, to take over as head coach.
