A wave of change could be on the horizon for Pakistan cricket after a dismal 0-2 Test series defeat against Bangladesh. Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) are allegedly reviewing the entire Test setup, and captain Shan Masood, head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed and veteran paceman Shaheen Afridi all face uncertain futures in red-ball cricket. Sources closely associated with the PCB say that discussions to revamp the Test side began soon after the crushing loss in Bangladesh and reports suggest that significant changes to team leadership and management are being considered. Perhaps the biggest move could be a change of captaincy. While Shan Masood is understood to have pleaded for a chance to lead the team in their next few away tours to the West Indies and England, PCB is believed to be seeking a fresh direction. In the same vein, head coach Sarfaraz Ahmed's tenure could be cut short. News is rife that the former wicket-keeper batsman could be reassigned to look after the development squads, the Under-19 and A teams. Also Read | Who Makes Way for Jofra Archer? A PCB source confirmed talks between the duo and board officials, and said: "I can confirm that Younis Khan and Muhammad Hafeez have both had talks with PCB officials about joining the board in key positions. But things have yet to be finalised." The source continued to add that Mohsin Naqvi, Chairman PCB, has been advised by his advisors to make drastic changes to the team following the loss. Said the source : "There is a proposal to remove Sarfaraz as head coach and hand him back the responsibility of managing the national under-19 and A sides." Sources close to Pakistan cricket state that Sarfaraz's fate with the red-ball side rests on a deal with Younis Khan, who had put forth rigid conditions to the PCB on previous occasions. On the other hand Mohammad Hafeez is being considered for a dual role which is likely to include chief selector along with head of international cricket department. But the development is said to be at an nascent stage. The source revealed : "In Hafeez's case, there is a feeling that since the former player has been pretty critical about the team and board in media roping him in might create an impression he has been offered a position to stop his criticism." In a major development concerning Shaheen Afridi, it is learnt that the current Pakistan ODI skipper is not expected to attend the upcoming Test camp in Lahore and will now be exclusively focusing on white-ball cricket. With a challenging string of away Tests ahead the PCB appears ready to take some difficult decisions and rebuild its strategy for the longer format.
