New Zealand all-rounder Glenn Phillips has unexpectedly exited the Gujarat Titans camp ahead of their IPL 2025 clash with Lucknow Super Giants, according to a report in Cricbuzz. While an official statement from the BCCI is awaited, according to the Cricbuzz report, the New Zealand all-rounder may have sustained an injury during the Titans’ away clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 6. Glenn Phillips had picked up a groin injury while fielding as a substitute. The 28-year-old was bought by the 2022 IPL champions in the mega auction for INR 2 crore. Known for his athletic fielding and high-impact all-round abilities, Glenn Phillips' addition to the GT squad certainly generated buzz. However, the all-rounder did not feature in any of GT's playing eleven so far. His sudden departure now leaves a hole in the squad and raises uncertainty over whether the franchise will name a replacement. While GT will return to action on April 12, the team officials have yet to offer clarity on Phillips' future in the tournament. GT lose second overseas player Glenn Phillips isn’t the only overseas absentee from the Gujarat Titans squad. Kagiso Rabada also left the team recently to attend a personal emergency in South Africa. While the South African bowler left the team right at the beginning of the tournament, there is no official update regarding his return to the league. Amongst the five players, only three have been consistently featuring in the playing eleven. Jos Buttler, Sherfane Rutherford and Rashid Khan have been a part of the playing eleven, at least as an Impact Player. Each IPL team is permitted up to eight overseas players in their squad. Despite having only five overseas players, GT have done well so far in IPL 2025. The 2022 champions currently sit atop the points table with four wins from five matches. Their only loss came in the season opener against the Punjab Kings. Since then, they have bounced back with remarkable performances against Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Rajasthan Royals. In the batting department, Sai Sudharsan has dominated the list and is the second leading run-scorer of IPL 2025. In the bowling department, Mohammed Siraj and Sai Kishore have grabbed 10 wickets each so far.
