Chennai Super Kings’ young batter Ayush Mhatre nearly stole the show at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium with a sensational 94 off just 48 balls against Royal Challengers Bengaluru. At just 17, Mhatre walked into a high-pressure chase of 214 and stunned the home crowd with his composure. Though he ended up on the losing side, several fans and cricketers have appreciated the youngster's knock. India's T20I captain and MI star Suryakumar Yadav took to social media to talk about his Mumbai teammate. “Innings filled with intent, bravery, and fire! The future is here. Remember the name,” Suryakumar wrote. Mhatre, who came in as an injury replacement for Ruturaj Gaikwad earlier this season, announced himself at the big stage against Mumbai Indians with a cameo. Against RCB, he proved that he belonged to the big stage. His fearless 114-run partnership with Ravindra Jadeja (77* off 45) nearly dragged CSK across the finish line. Despite Ayush Mhatre’s heroics, Royal Challengers Bengaluru held their nerve in the final overs to seal a dramatic two-run win in front of their home fans. The turning point came in the 19th over, when Lungi Ngidi dismissed Mhatre with a slower delivery just as CSK looked on course for victory. With 15 needed off the last six balls and eight wickets in hand, RCB handed the ball to Yash Dayal. The left-arm pacer showed great composure under pressure, conceding just 11 runs and closing out the match for his side. Innings filled with intent, bravery and fire! Just days before Mhatre’s knock, 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest men’s T20 centurion. CSK head coach Stephen Fleming praised the fearlessness of these teenagers but admitted he was equally amazed by the quality of their skills. "It's amazing, really. It's extraordinary to watch that fearless approach. But you've got to have skills as well. To be able to execute them against some of the best bowlers in the world is quite remarkable. It doesn't matter whether you're 14, 18, 21. The innings that we've seen being played, particularly by these two youngsters, is just top class," he said. Speaking about it, Fleming said that he is worried about the opposition. "I worry a little bit about the Under-19 opposition. They'll come up against two pretty handy openers when a World Cup comes around. But it's amazing how much talent and how composed they are," he said. While CSK are already out of the playoff race, Ayush Mhatre has emerged as the player of CSK's IPL 2025 season. With four more matches remaining, all eyes will be on the youngster once again.
