The Indian team management has asked the fast-bowling all-rounder Nitish Kumar Reddy to join the team for the second Test match at Guwahati starting on November 22. The notice came after the confusion regarding Shubman Gill's availability in the second Test. Nitish Reddy was earlier suffering from a quadriceps injury, for which he did not play the white ball series against Australia. He was with the India squad for the two-match Test series against Eden Gardens at home. However, the team released him given the spin-favorite conditions in Kolkata. However, situations changed after Shubman Gill suffered from a neck niggle, which ultimately became a crucial point as India fell short of 30 runs in the first Test. Even though there is no official confirmation from BCCI's side regarding Gill, Reddy's call looks like a batting substitute for the Test captain. India is leading the series by 2-0 and then Nitish is called. As per the Times of India, Reddy was asked to stay till the third ODI, which is tomorrow, but now, he has been summoned before the stipulated time. Notably, the Indian head coach Gautam Gambhir is desperate to prove Nitish Reddy as the all-rounder, even though he hardly gets to bowl. He was taken to Woodlands Hospital in a stretcher and was later admitted to the ICU. Even though he was released the next day, he didn't come to bat and is in Kolkata, at the team hotel, under the BCCI medical team's observation. The Indian team is supposed to have a practice session at Eden Gardens today, but Shubman is unlikely to be present. Not only that, but he won't be flying to Guwahati with the team, scheduled tomorrow, due to his unhealed neck. Moreover, a BCCI source informed the PTI that Gill is wearing a neck collar and has acute neck pain. The source further claimed that Gill will need three to four days to rest and they will have to wait till Tuesday, that is today, to have a better picture.
