In a do-or-die match against Sikkim in the Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (SMAT) on Thursday, December 5 at the Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore, Baroda posted 349-5, the biggest-ever T20 total in cricket history. Baroda created a massive record against Sikkim in SMAT, earlier the highest-ever T20 total was registered to Zimbabwe who scored 344-4 against Gambia this year. Bhanu Punia, Baroda’s star batter, rose to the occasion with a terrific century knock of 134* off just 51 deliveries that included five fours and fifteen humongous sixes. Also Read: Australia Announces Playing XI for Adelaide Test Batting first, Baroda went berserk from the start, their openers Shashwat Rawat and Abhimanyu Singh took down the bowlers of Sikkim in a blasting fashion. They didn’t stop and kept scoring runs. Rawat got out scoring 43 runs off just 16 deliveries, while Abhimanyu scored 53 from just 17 balls. Bhanu Punia Came to bat at number 3, he continued the momentum from where the Baroda openers had left. He went on to hit boundary after boundary, scoring 134* from just 51 balls with 15 sixes. He didn’t spare the poor ball and kept scoring with a power-packed strike rate. Then came, Shivalik Sharma and Vishnu Solanki for the batting, they also didn’t change their mood and kept hammering the Sikkim bowlers all over the park. They walked in and batted aggressively, scoring 55 runs off 17 and 50 of 16 deliveries respectively. Sikkim bowlers faced one of the worst days in their cricketing careers, particularly Lee Yong Lepcha and Roshan. Lepcha leaked 55 runs in just two overs, while Roshan was hammered 81 in his four overs, the joint-third highest in T20 cricket history. Tarun Sharma and Parth conceded 40 and 41 runs in their two overs respectively, while Ankur conceded 51 in four and Saptula leaked 36 off two. The only pick of the bowlers from Sikkim was Palzor, who looked good with the ball and picked up two wickets for 45 runs in his four-over spell.
