Royal Challengers Bengaluru may prefer to delay Bhuvneshwar Kumar's first game in IPL 2025 rather than setting him up for Chennai Super Kings. The primary reason is the spin-friendly Chepauk track, which gives little assistance to fast bowlers in terms of pace and swing. RCB will face CSK on March 28 (Friday) at the MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. Bhuvneshwar has joined RCB from Sunrisers Hyderabad this season but missed the match against KKR. Now, as per the Chennai conditions, RCB could rest him yet again. The pitch offers very heavy support for spinners, as was noted in the example when CSK's Noor Ahmed outperformed all the quicks in the last match against Mumbai Indians. Besides, Bhuvneshwar's main weapons are swinging deliveries, which, unfortunately, the Chennai pitch won't permit. RCB should in fact field an extra spinner or a medium-pace bowler who can adapt in case of any situation to the slower conditions when playing at Chepauk. In fact, these stats aren't great for Bhuvneshwar at this venue as well. In 13 IPL matches held at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, he has managed to grab mere 7 wickets, an average of 54.14 and an economy of 8.42, and these stats really don't instill any confidence. Someone like Suyash Sharma, Krunal Pandya, or Yash Dayal is a better contender for such conditions. Even the part-timers like Liam Livingstone and Tim David, for example, could go a long way in surprising this surface. In quite a contrary prospect, Rasikh Salam is presumed to do a better job in the conditions of Chennai in relation to Bhuvneshwar. Even with Yash Dayal and Josh Hazlewood, RCB has enough pace options. Hence it would be wise to keep Bhuvneshwar for a trial in more pace-friendly conditions.
