Following rumors of his availability, Josh Hazlewood has been declared fit to feature for Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in IPL 2025. Following high-intensity bidding, he was the costliest Australian cricketer in the IPL 2025 auction and fetched a massive INR 12.50 crore. Hazlewood injured his side in the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024/25, keeping him away from the last Test in Sydney. The injury eventually became a hip injury, which forced him to sit out of the recently held Champions Trophy 2025. Now, he has finally been cleared to play for RCB, greatly strengthening their bowling unit. But Hazlewood is extremely prone to injury, and although fit, he can collapse in the middle of the tournament. Thus, RCB needs to look after his workload management and rest him for a couple of games if needed to maintain him fit for the big games and injury-free for the entire tournament. He will be a key part of the bowling group, and his fitness level will determine how good the bowling department will perform in a high-scoring tournament. Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Yash Dayal are new-ball specialists of RCB who have bowled enough powerplay overs and will be ideally suited to open up the bowling attack. That requires Hazlewood to play the role of an enforcer and bowl hard lengths in the middle overs. Out of all the options available, he is the most suited for this task because Bhuvneshwar and Dayal lack that pace, and their natural lengths are fuller than Hazlewood's as well. RCB don't have that many good wrist spinners in the team, so Hazlewood's role in middle overs will grow. He will also bowl death overs, so his role can be the most challenging among all pacers. That is why RCB invested so heavily in purchasing Hazlewood; he has qualities that very few can boast of with the ball. RCB's sole concern will be if he is able to stay injury-free in such a grueling tournament as he has shown signs of unease while playing regular cricket recently.
