SunRisers Hyderabad (SRH) bowler Eshan Malinga turned the match on its head in just one over after two wickets against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) in their IPL 2025 encounter at Ekana International Stadium on Friday. He first ran out Rajat Patidar for 18 before bouncing back to take a brilliant return catch from Romario Shepherd on the very next delivery. This dramatic swing came in the 16th over when SRH captain Pat Cummins called back Malinga into the attack after he had already conceded 27 runs in his first two overs. Malinga's first three deliveries went for seven runs (including a leg-bye) before Patidar, who was just able to get a yorker out for a single, took a chance on a run as Malinga was watching all the time and made a direct hit to run him out. To top that, on the next ball, Shepherd played a casual turn that was dropped back slowly to Malinga, who very neatly brought the ball in with both hands. He also dismissed Tim David, who had problems with his hamstring injury. David is known to be a power-hitter. However, David could only score a single before getting out and failing to use the power that he is known for with his great batting. In the end, they were bowled out for 189 in 19.5 overs, falling a distant 42 runs short. They started well enough, having 72/0 in the powerplay. After the powerplay, RCB lost Virat Kohli for 43 and Phil Salt was assaults and brought up a fast fifty off 27 balls. After Salt got dismissed for 62 by Cummins, Patidar and Jitesh tried to stabilize, but unfortunately, wickets kept falling - that collapse put an end to the chase. RCB has one remaining league game and that MUST be won along with hoping other results go their way in order to try and still achieve a top-two position in the competition.
