A day after Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) lifted their maiden IPL title in Ahmedabad, tragedy struck during the victory parade outside the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, where a massive crowd of nearly two lakh fans turned up to welcome the players. The lack of crowd control led to a devastating stampede, resulting in the death of 11 people and injuries to over 30 others. In response, RCB and the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) issued a joint statement on Wednesday evening, expressing their grief over the incident and announcing a financial gesture to support the victims' families. “RCB - KSCA expresses deep concern and heartfelt condolences regarding the unfortunate incident that occurred during the celebration organised by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at M Chinnaswamy Stadium earlier today,” the joint statement read. “We are profoundly saddened by the tragic loss of life and the injuries sustained by individuals during this event. Our thoughts and prayers are with the families affected by this incident. We sincerely regret this tragedy and stand in solidarity with the bereaved families during this extremely difficult time.” The statement further confirmed that RCB and KSCA will provide INR 5 lakh each to the families of those who lost their lives during the stampede. The gesture, they clarified, is not compensation for the loss of life but a small support during a time of unimaginable grief. “We want to emphasize that this compensation is not intended to determine or replace the value of human life, but rather to serve as a gesture of support and solidarity during such challenging times.” Also READ: RCB faces heat after sharing celebration video hours after deadly parade stampede Sachin Tendulkar Reacts: ‘Beyond Tragic’ Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar also reacted to the tragedy on social media.
