Ravindra Jadeja has candidly expressed a desire to be India's Test cricket captain. This follows soon after Shubman Gill was named the new Test skipper in place of Rohit Sharma. Rohit and Virat Kohli both retired from Test cricket, leaving Jadeja among the most seasoned players in the side for the forthcoming series against England. Jadeja's Wish to Be Captain and Team Role Speaking to CSK and India's former teammate Ravichandran Ashwin, Jadeja said leading India in Tests is the only remaining thing he needs to do in his career. He referred to it as a proud moment if he gets the opportunity to captain the Test team. Jadeja said: “Just one thing is left. Test captaincy. I’ve mostly achieved everything else, and it is a moment of pride to be Test Captain or lead India." It is believed by many that he would have been an excellent candidate for vice-captain or even captain. But the selectors selected Rishabh Pant as Shubman Gill's deputy instead. Jadeja has no grievance over not getting the captaincy. The premier all-rounder added: "Captaincy is something that can be learned with time… But I believe that an experienced cricketer understands the pulse of the game." Jadeja has never been India's Test captain. His sole short stint as captain was with Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in 2022, where he was replaced in the middle of the season. He also declined to captain Saurashtra in the second half of the Ranji Trophy earlier this year, though he played a few matches. The new India Test team captained by Shubman Gill will tour England from June 20 in a five-match series. This series will mark the beginning of a new era for India in the absence of Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli.
