Team India forgot their dismal Test series defeat at the hands of New Zealand as they thrashed the West Indies in the first Test match at Ahmedabad. The chief architect behind the unprecedented success was local boy Ravindra Jadeja, who conducted a clinic to bamboozle the Windies with both bat and ball. The southpaw, who has reached his career-best Test rankings as a batsman, has been in phenomenal form in Test cricket. Since 2023, Jadeja has accumulated nearly 1500 runs at a batting average of 43, supported by 88 wickets at a phenomenal average of 26.6. He is levels above any other all-rounder in the sport, be it stats- or competency-wise. Beginning his career as a bowling all-rounder, Jadeja has developed leaps and bounds as a Test batsman. Unlike others, Jaddu is comfortable to face both spin and pace, a trait which has brought him returns in SENA nations. With 6 hundreds and 27 half-centuries to his credit, he is certainly the best current all-rounder and deservesly is at number 1 in the ICC rankings. In the Ahmedabad Test, Jadeja was back to his best again. Having had a short break after Anderson-Tendulkar Trophy, Jadeja came up with a century in the first innings. Free from his number-six role, Jadeja enjoyed the left-arm spinner Jomel Warrican and slammed five sixes in his undefeated century. He was very much unperturbed in his own innings and was one of the three centurions from India. He complemented it with a master spell of bowling as he picked four wickets with the ball. India declared their innings on the eve of Day 3, Jadeja remaining not out on 104. Interestingly, if Jadeja had batted a couple of overs extra and could have scored only 10 more runs, he would have made a massive history. Currently sitting on 3,990 Test runs, Jadeja is just ten runs shy from completing 4000 runs. If he completes the formality in the second Test in Delhi, Jadeja will become the 18th Indian batter and only the second Indian all-rounder to achieve the feat. He would also complete the feat of becoming one of the rare players to have a double of 4000+ Test runs and 300+ Test wickets. Jadeja now has 334 Test scalps to his credit. In the history of Test cricket, only three cricketers have 4000+ Test runs and 300+ wickets. They are Sir Ian Botham, Kapil Dev and Daniel Vettori. With 10 runs short, Jadeja will be at the level of the all-time greats of the game. He will achieve the feat just a few days after being omitted from India's ODI squad.
