For Vidarbha cricket, Karnataka has been a consistent source of batting prospects over the years. Following Ganesh Satish and Karun Nair, Ravikumar Samarth is now all set to become the next Karnataka player to strengthen Vidarbha's batting line-up in domestic cricket. The 32-year-old batter, who spent most of his cricketing life with Karnataka, is likely to feature for Vidarbha in the upcoming season. Having played a season with Uttarakhand in 2023-24, Samarth is now set to make a change again. He has already signed papers to depart his existing team and is keeping his fingers crossed for a confirmatory word from Vidarbha. "I have taken the NOC from Uttarakhand and am waiting for the formalities (with Vidarbha)," Samarth informed Cricbuzz. Vidarbha Cricket Association (VCA) officials too have confirmed that he is on the verge of becoming their new signing. Dhruv Shorey, a Delhi boy by origin, will remain the side's second professional player. Till date in his first-class career, he has scored 6,157 runs at an average of 39.72 in 95 matches, and he amassed these runs with the help of 15 centuries and 35 half-centuries. His capacity to score huge scores and hold up innings has made him a precious member for all teams he played for. In his only season at Uttarakhand, Samarth played seven games across all three formats, first-class, List A, and T20. He aggregated a total of 649 runs in first-class cricket at a strike rate of more than 54, 385 runs in List A at more than 55, and 184 runs in T20s at more than 30. His solid performance is evident and shows that he is still at his peak. The reigning Ranji Trophy title holders Vidarbha are recruiting Samarth in place of Karun Nair. Nair, who was instrumental in helping Vidarbha win the title last season by contributing 863 runs in nine games, has opted to go back to his home state on personal grounds. Earlier, it was Ganesh Satish who had been Vidarbha's steady batter for close to a decade. With the addition of Samarth, Vidarbha looks to carry on their good form in domestic cricket and retain their Ranji trophy. His experience and established record will provide solidity to their top order.
