Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin sheds light on Rohit Sharma's possible frustrating sitution for a long draught in runs. Presently, the Indian ODI captain Rohit Sharma is going through a rough patch, not just with the bat, but also with his captaincy. Rohit-Led side lost both their last red ball series against Australia and New Zealand. Speaking about his former teammate's possible mental conditions, Ashwin told on his YouTube channel, "This is not easy. If you look at it from Rohit's POV, then obviously, it is frustrating for him. He wants to concentrate on the series. He thinks that I've done well in this format, and I'd like to continue. I'm going into the tournament with a lot of confidence on the back of the one-day tournaments that I've played. But people will ask questions." Extending support to Rohit, Ash added, "The ones who are watching will obviously ask. It's a catch-22 situation. You can't stop these questions. When will they stop? When he performs. But as a cricketer, I understand what Rohit is going through. It's not easy. I pray that he does well and scores a century in this series." The post-2024 T20 World Cup period has seen Rohit Sharma struggling with the bat and captaincy. After India announced the squad for the ICC Champions Trophy 2025, some cricket fans and experts were questioning his selection for the marquee event as his recent form is not that impressive which raised concerns about his position in India's squad. Rohit's struggle caught the limelight, especially during the Border Gavaskar Trophy, when he had to opt out from the final Test at Sydney, citing his off form. He then went to play a domestic match for Mumbai, but he could not yield any positive result. India secured a four-wicket victory in the first ODI against England, with Shubman Gill (87), Shreyas Iyer (59), and Axar Patel (52) playing key innings to guide their team to a successful chase of 249. While India’s win was comprehensive, the spotlight remained on Rohit Sharma’s underwhelming performance, as it is vital for the Indian captain to regain his form ahead of the ICC Champions Trophy 2025. With this in mind, Rohit will be keen to return to his best in the second ODI, set to take place on Sunday, February 9, at Barabati Stadium in Cuttack.
